Salalah is a great location all year round for a unique
holiday. Salalah is home to legends and folklores,

Location Salalah is situated in the Dhofar region to the south of
the Sultanate of Oman. It is surrounded by mountains on
the edge of the Indian Ocean . Unspoilt, glorious, white
sandy beaches are scattered with coconut palms, banana
plantations and blow holes spurting water over 30 metres
into the air. Mountains, cliffs, caves and waterfalls
are rich with greenery and wildlife as a blessing of the
South west Monsoons known as the Khareef. The town
itself is bustling with shops, restaurants, traditional
markets and friendly people.
History The history of Salalah can be dated as far back as the
Queen of Sheba who reportedly travelled to this region
to obtain supplies of frankincense- a plant which grows
only in southern Oman , Somalia and India .
Archaeologists have uncovered remains of a great mosque,
tools, pottery, weapons and jewellery dating back to
3000BC. Some places of interests are Nabi Ayoubs tomb
and bin Ali’s tomb, the ancient city Al Balid, the lost
city of Ubar, the museum, Mirbat, craftsmen souq and the
anti gravity road.
People Oman is famous for its people and cultures. It is known
world wide that the Omani people are exceptionally
helpful and friendly. Salalah upholds its cultures and
traditions proudly. The khareef festival is a fantastic
opportunity every year to experience Omani culture.
Fashion, national heritage, local foods and music,
traditional performances and folklore troupes fire up
this truly majestical carnival that thousands of people
travel from all over the world to celebrate.
Wildlife Known commonly throughout Arabia , Salalah is named ‘The
Garden City’ and is most certainly a nature lover’s
paradise!
Due to the khareef season Salalah is a haven for
wildlife and nature tourism. It is home to over 56 types
of mammals including the Arabian leopard, hyena, ibex,
gazelle and hundreds of cows, camels and goats.
Bird watchers, you can expect to see flamingo, storks,
stilts, sandpipers, herons, egrets, sunbirds, green
pigeons, eagles and kites.
There are also 4 species of turtle that nest in Salalah
including the highly endangered Hawksbill.
