Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain)
JH3 1200th Run Pre-Lube Weekend
19th / 20th June 2008 Thursday / Friday

We are planning on holding another camping weekend on the mountain with a few people to warm up before the main event, our 1200th Run, on the evening of Saturday the 21st June. Some of you will remember the last time we did this for the Gulf Inter-hash in March 2007. We understand you all enjoyed yourselves so we thought we would use the same venue with different runs. Any of you who would like to stay over for the 1200th run would be welcome.

Jebel Akhdar is a great place; beautiful and un-spoilt, clean cool air, very few people and no roads until nearly 3 years ago. Up until then there was no tarmac road to the top due to the military having a camp up there and so it was very restricted access. Even today you will need to show your driving licence at the check point where the Police will permit 4 X 4 vehicles only. This is due to the steepness of the road and the effects on your clutch. There are no exceptions to this rule so you must inform us beforehand of your mode of transportation. This is explained further down this page.

The main points to take note of are:-

1. This will be a camping weekend, overnight 19th June.

2. Whatever package you select you must bring your own sleeping bag.

3. Tents can be provided but you must advise us beforehand, otherwise you will have to sleep outside, not too much of a deal at this time of the year but you may have to contend with the donkeys.

4. We are able to pre-book you into the Jebel Akhdar Hotel at a hash discounted rate of OMR 30 per night / per couple B & B. Please indicate on the registration form if you require this service. We shall make the reservation for you but rest is up to you and you must be able to get to the run site on your own. Registration cost will be for the event only.

5. The camp site is located at elevation 2,400 meters above sea level. During the day we expect fairly warm conditions, probably in the region of 30 degrees, so make sure you bring sun block and a hat. During the night the temperature drops to quite low if the wind picks up. If you check the internet you'll see what we mean. Bring some warm clothing for the late night toilet trot from the tent. We shall have a large bon-fire during the evening.

If we need to organize a bus service / convoy it will have to leave the police check point at the base of Jebel Akhdar (Wadi Moudine) at 1100 on the 19th June.

6. The run will start at 17:00 on the 19th. There will be long, normal and knitters/walkers trails

7. The run on the 20th will start approx. after 11:00 depending on hangovers.

We are offering four pricing packages, depending on your mode of transport into Oman:-

Full = Pick-up from Seeb International Airport / Hotel in Muscat general area (Marjan), transport to and from the camp site and basic camping equipment (no sleeping bag). Prices: OMR 25 with beer/wine, OMR 20 softies only.

Hash Event only = you will have your own 4 x 4 and camping equipment (including sleeping bag OMR 20 with beer/wine, OMR 15 softies only.

The basic package for all will be:

Thursday 19th June 2008 = Dinner

Friday 20th June 2008 = Breakfast and Lunch

Free Beer and wine will be provided on each day until it runs out, it didn't last time.

Weather:
The weather may be cooler at night so take something warm just in case you need to wrap up during the night, it is normally anything up to 20 degrees below the daytime and night-time temperatures of the coastal plain. In the winter it has been known to freeze an empty beer bottle to the car roof. Brrrrrrrr

Day time:

Mostly sunny in mornings about 30degrees with the chance of cloud in the afternoon. Rain is always possible.
